1990 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Ralph began his swimming career at the Pawtucket East Senior High School, under coach Max Read.  While competing for Pawtucket East, he won many freestyle races and set pool records.  Along with his friend and teammate Milt Franklin, he helped lead his team to the Interscholastic State Championship in 1949 and 1950.  His accomplishments earned him recognition as a  member of the Rhode Island Interscholastic All State team in both years.

During high school, he was also a member of the Pawtucket Boys’ Club team, under coach Andy Dimant.  While competing for the Boys’ Club, he won many State and New England Championships.  He was named a member of the Boys’ Club of America All-Start Team in 1950.  He was recognized many times by the Rhode Island Swimming Coaches and Officials Association as one of Rhode Island’s outstanding swimmer.

After graduating from high school, he entered Brown University and swam for coach Joe Watmough.  During his four year tenure at Brown, Ralph set numerous records in the 50, 100, 200, and 440 freestyle.  During 1953, he was selected as an NCAA All-American.
