2015 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

 

Sam Peck competed as an Age Group Swimmer at East Side YMCA and later at the East Bay Aquatic Club (EBAC).  Sam was a top ten finisher in both YMCA regional championship events and the New England Age Group rankings.  Representing EBAC, Sam was a United States Swimming (USS) National Junior qualifier and participant.   During high school Sam competed as an independent swimmer from Hope High School.  Sam won the state championship title in the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle events while being the only swimmer to represent the Blue Wave during his high school years.  After high school, Sam attended the University of Rhode Island and set university records in the 16500 yard freestyle, the 1000 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle events.  His 500 yard freestyle record still stands today.  He also set a new University record in the 400 yard individual medley.  Sam was an Atlantic 10 Finalist all four years, earned the team High Point Award all four years, and was team captain during his senior year.  Upon graduation, Sam then became an Assistant Swimming Coach at his alma mater, the University of Rhode Island.
