KRISTEN SPREMULLO

2025 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Kristen swam competitively for Little Rhody Aquatics Club and East Providence Boys and Girls Club during her youth and high school years and excelled in the 100 yard and the 200-yard butterfly events.  She also competed as an independent swimmer for Toll Gate High School and was designated by the athletic department and school as the “Toll Gate Swim Team.”

Kristen spent many years as a lifeguard for the city of Warwick and the State of Rhode Island.  In 1997, she was awarded the Most Valuable Female Lifeguard during the RI State Lifeguard Tournament.

During her high school years, she was recruited to be a member of the Little Rhody Water Polo team and excelled as a player.  She was not only the only female to play on the team, but also the only female to compete in the Eastern Water Polo League.

Kristen attended Slippery Rock University where she competed on both the Slippery Rock Women’s Divion II Swim and Division I Water Polo Teams.  As a member of the swimming team, she was a top tier Division II swimmer in both the 100 and 200 butterfly events.

As a Division I Water Polo player, Kristen was a four-year starter, and her team won the Eastern Water Polo Association League each year she played on the team.  She and her teammates made the final four of the National Championships each year, placing 4th one year, 2nd two years and winning the National Championship in 1995.Their team was the first and only team, outside of California, to win a Women’s National Water Polo Championship.  Kristen was also named Tri-Captain of the Slippery Rock Water Polo Team during her senior year.

Kristen was chosen to compete for the East Squad Water Polo Team at the 1994 US Olympic Festival, finishing second place at the Championships. In 1995, she was also invited to try out for the US National Water Polo Team.

Kristen was a Magna Cum Laude Health/Physical Education graduate of Slippery Rock University and received her Master of Education in Guidance from Providence College.  She is a former Coach of the Cranston West Swim Team and is currently in her 28th year of teaching Health and Physical Education in the Cranston Public School System.

In addition to spending time with her two children Collin and Erin and family and friends, Kristen loves to stay active  swimming, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, hiking and participating in the RI Swim Across America event to raise money for cancer research.
