CHRIS GIGLIO
2002 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME
Chris began his swimming career at the Barrington YMCA where he developed into an outstanding and versatile swimmer. As an age group and YMCA swimmer, he won New England YMCA and U.S.S. titles in the 200 yard individual medley, 100 yard breaststroke and 500 yard freestyle. He was also a member of 200 freestyle, 200 medley and 400 freestyle championship relay teams. As a Rhode Island Age Group swimmer, Chris broke records in numerous events before entering the high school ranks where he truly excelled.
While competing for Sandy Gorham at Barrington High School, he proved to be one of the state’s most dominant swimmers. Chris was a three year Ail-State selection and led his team to 33 consecutive dual meet wins and two state championship titles. During his senior season in 1986, Chris won three events at the Brown Interscholastic Championship Swim meet, two events at the Max Read Invitational and two events at the Rhode Island Interscholastic Championship meet. In the process, he set state high school records in the 200 freestyle, 200 individual medley and as a member of the 200 yard medley relay team. The record time of 1:38.60 in the medley relay stilt stands after sixteen years and earned Chris and his teammates All- American honors. During his senior year at Barrington High School, Chris was named Outstanding Swimmer at the state championship meet and the top interscholastic swimmer in 1986.
After high school, Chris competed for Williams College where his swimming success continued. He was team Co-Captain during his junior and senior seasons and earned NCAA Division ill Honorable Mention All-American recognition. Chris is currently Vice President of Carotan C. Chaney Association and resides in Arlington, Virginia.
