JOE CALLERY
2001 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME
Joe began his swimming career at the Pawtucket Boy l s Club in 1938. He developed into an accomplished diver and breaststroke swimmer. During the years 1945-1949, competing for East High School in Pawtucket, he was undefeated all four years and State Diving Champion.
In 1947, representing the Pawtucket Boy l s Club, he was New England Junior Diving Champion and the following year he became a member of the New England Champion Medley Relay team. From 1947-48, Joe was a diver for the Rhode Island All-Star Swimming team as well as a swimmer for the Rhode Island All-Star Medley Relay team.
Joe went on to attend Boston University and competed for the terriers from 1950-54.
After graduation in 1955, he became head coach of Boston University’s varsity diving team. Joe is currently a swim official for the Rhode Island Swim Officials Association and resides in Pawtucket.
