1994 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Beginning her swim career in Age Group swimming with the Pawtucket Boys’ Club in 1968, Cindy was successful at a very young age and was selected to the Rhode Island All Star team which competed against the Pointe Claire, Quebec.  She held pool records in several backstroke and freestyle events in dual meets and RI Championship competition.

       As a member of the Seekonk Dolphins swim team in the 1970’s, she qualified for various RI, New England, and Junior National Championships. She was a member of the 1974 All Star team which competed against the Virginia All Star team. Cindy ranked in the top five in New England Swimming for the 50 yard and the 100 yard freestyle; and in 1978 was selected to the NE All Star swim team competing against the New York All Star team.

           Cindy also held numerous records in freestyle and relay events while competing summers in the Narragansett Swim League for the Pawtucket Country Club. She was the first female finisher in five consecutive “Save the Bay” swim events.

Swimming interscholastically for Saint Raphael Academy, Cindy became a High School All American, ranking third in the U.S. for the 50 yard freestyle. In 1979, she received the University of Rhode Island “Century Award” as best female student/athlete in the State; the Saint Raphael Academy McGeough Memorial Award for academic and athletic excellence; and was nominated for the Providence Journal Bulletin and Pawtucket Times Student Athlete of the year.

       As a member of the URI swim team, she established records in the 50, 100, and 200 yard freestyle events, as well as the medley and freestyle relay events. She was voted Co-Captain of the URI team in her senior year.

           In 1986, Cindy captured 5 gold medals in the International Law Enforcement Olympics in Columbus, Ohio; and, in 1988, was a bronze medalist in the 50 meter freestyle competing in Sydney, Australia.

           Cindy has also been a swim coach, lifeguard, and an instructor for the American Red Cross in CPR, First Aid and Water Safety.

           As a Rhode island State trooper assigned to the Detective Division, Cindy continues her interest in swimming and competes in various triathlons.
