KATIE HARON

2018 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

            Katie began her swimming career at the age of seven (7) with the Ocean State Squids at Brown University.  During her age group career, she was an outstanding Rhode Island and New England age group swimmer and high point winner.  Katie qualified and was a scorer for the New England Zone Team as well as a finalist at the United States Swimming Junior and Senior Nationals.  From 1999-2006, Katie was a National Age Group top sixteen (16) swimmer in numerous events.

            Katie went on to attend LaSalle Academy where she was a Rhode Island All State Swimmer and record holder.  As a senior at LaSalle, she was elected co-captain and was the recipient of the Paul San Souci Outstanding Swimmer award for 2005, 2006, and again in 2007.  She set School records in the 50 freestyle and 100 yard freestyle.  In addition, she was a member of the school record for 400 yard freestyle relay.  These records still exist at LaSalle.  In 2007 Katie set Rhode Island State records in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle and was the recipient of the Bay View Invitational Outstanding Swimmer Award.  In 2006 and 2007, she was a United States Swimming Scholastic All American.

            After graduation from LaSalle, Katie attended Arizona State University on an athletic scholarship and was a varsity letter recipient all four years.  In 2011, she was awarded the Mona Plummer Award, which is presented to the team member who demonstrates the most inspiration on the team and is an outstanding leader in both the pool and the classroom.  In 2010, and in 2011, Katie was selected to the PAC-10 Women’s Swimming and Diving All Academic second team.  As a senior at Arizona, she participated in the NCAA Championships and was named to the NCAA All American team.  At the PAC-10 Championships in 2011, Katie was a member of the ASU 200 Medley Relay team which set a school record, a record that still stands today.

            Upon graduation from Arizona State, Katie continued to be involved in swimming as an age group swim coach with the Sun Devils Aquatic Swim Club, a nationally ranked club.  She also coached age group swimmers with the PODS Swimming Program in Seekonk, MA. While back in Rhode Island, katie was a volunteer assistant swim coach with the Brown University Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Teams.  Katie received her Master Degree in public Health from Brown University in 2014 and is currently pursuing an MBA from the Rady School of Management at UCSD.

            Katie is now living by the beach in San Diego, CA. She enjoys being a beach bum on the weekends, swims with a local masters team, and is attempting to learn a land sport (beach volleyball).
