GLENN A. GINISH, SR.

1995 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Glenn started swimming at the Pawtucket Boys Club at age 5 under the coaching of Ellis Mayers. He held many local, state, and New England AAU age group records and consistently made the Rhode Island Junior League All-Stars from 19661976. He represented RI with the All-Star team in Virginia and Canada.

While in high school at Pawtucket West, Glenn was selected for many awards. He was Outstanding Swimmer and the Century Club of URF Outstanding Athlete in 1976. At Pawtucket West he was named the Winston Dodge Award Winner in 1976 which goes to the Outstanding Male Athlete.

Along with all the awards, Glenn was also the first Rhode Island schoolboy to break 1:48 in the 200 free, 5:00 in the 500 free, and :49 in the 100 free. Glenn also earned All-State in three different events in three years. To date, Glenn still holds every individual record at Pawtucket West/Shea high school. While at Shea, he attained an 87-1 record and Glenn was elected Co-Captain in his senior year.

            Glenn went on to Southern Connecticut State University and set records in the 200 fly and was a member of the 800 free relay that broke the school record.  Glenn qualified for the Division II Nationals for two years.

            Glenn continues his love for the sport and coaches the Cumberland-Lincoln Boys and Girls Club.  In just four years, his team has grown from 35 members to 100.
