ALICE A. SULLIVAN

1988 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Alice has over forty years of service in the field of aquatics.  From 1943 to 1951 she served as Waterfront Director for summer camps in both Maine and New Hampshire.  In 1952 she began a long career as a Physical Education instructor and swimming teacher and then Assistant Principal in the East Providence Schools, as well as a member and leader of the Rhode Island Health, Physical Education, and Recreation organization and volunteer Water Safety Instructor for the Providence Chapter, American Red Cross.  From 1972 to the present she has been an Instructor Trainer for the American Red Cross in both First Aid and Swimming.

Alice is the first woman to serve on the Board of the Rhode Interscholastic Swimming Officials.  At present, Alice is the Coordinator of Girls Athletics for the Rhode Island High Schools, and maintains her activity in aquatics as a swimming official for the high school meets.  Among her many awards, in 1978 she received the Greater Providence Red Cross Safety Program Chairman’s Award and in 1977 the Outstanding Service Award, and in 1987 Alice was presented the National Women in Sports Day Proclamation.
