ANDREW ROBINSON

2006 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Andy began swimming in 1975 at the Barrington YMCA. He showed immediate prowess in the breaststroke and began to dominate the event in 1976. He earned many first place finishes and set records at Championship meets in each of the five age group categories finishing with a record time of 1:02.03 in the 100 yard breaststroke at the Rhode Island Age Group Championships in 1985.

The 100 yard breaststroke and the breaststroke leg of the medley relay became his signature events. Andy was a freshman varsity member of the Barrington High School swim team. He achieved First Team Providence Journal All State status as a sophomore, junior, and senior due to his first place finish in the 100 yard breaststroke in all three years, and his participation on the winning medley relay in his junior and senior years. In Andy’s senior year, his 50 yard breaststroke split of :25.50 spurred the medley relay to a RI record of 1:38.60, which earned the team High School All American status. He became the first RI high school swimmer to break the “one minute barrier” swimming a

:59.18 in the 100 yard breaststroke.

After graduating from Dartmouth College, Andy coached the varsity team at Barrington High School in 1992 and 1993.

Andy resides with his wife Jackie in Danvers, MA, and is project manager for BWK Construction Company, Inc.
