BARRY FONTAINE

2014 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

 

Barry Fontaine is a well known aquatic leader in Rhode Island. He came to RI from Worcester, Massachusetts with a strong background in Boys Club Swimming. Barry developed his experience in organizing and administering swimming programs and competitions while attending Springfield College. In Rhode Island, Barry utilized his coaching and managing skills organizing events while working for the Little Rhody Aquatic Club and Brown University. Barry was hired and became the first Aquatic Director for the North Providence Community Pool. While at North Providence he developed an age group swim team, was appointed the first North Providence High School Swim Coach and was responsible for all Water Safety Instruction.  His age group swimmers and high school swimmers earned many accolades including All Division and All State Honors.  Many of his age group and high school swimmers continued their careers in College performing very well because of what they had learned under Barry’s coaching.

During his more than thirty years of involvement with aquatics in Rhode Island, Barry was an American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, a Rhode Island Interscholastic Swim Official, and a recreational leader in Cranston and Narragansett.
