CLARA LAMORE WALKER

1981 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Clara is one of a kind, and her accomplishments in swimming are unequaled in Rhode Island.  For five years she went undefeated, indoor and outdoor, in all strokes and distances.  She was the only female to be given the Sportscaster’s and Writers’ Words Unlimited Award, as the  R.I. Athlete of the Year (1947).  She was has eleven All-American titles, five National championships, two American Records, and one world record.  Clara was a member of the 1948 Olympic Team and placed 7th in the 200 breaststroke.  She was named New England AAU Athlete of the Year in 1946 and 1947.  Clara is also an outstanding Water Safety Instructor for the American Red Cross.  She is presently a Guidance Counselor in the Cranston School system.
