FRANK McQUlGGAN
2001 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME
Frank is considered the driving force behind the Rhode Island’s biggest and best Masters Swimming workout group based at East Providence High School. He began his involvement with Masters Swimming in 1978 after competitively swimming for East Providence High School in 1966 and 1967.
He has been a dedicated Masters Swim coach for 20 years. Under his guidance, the East Providence Masters workout group members have achieved great success. Team highlights, during the years 1978-2000, include 51 team relays ranked in New England All-Time Top Ten. There have been 29 National Top Ten relays in 1998 and 1999. There have been 146 National Top Ten performances over a span of seven years (1993-99). The team placed first at the 1998 and 1999 New England Short Course yard championships.
Frank is an accomplished swimmer as well. In 1993, he was a member of the National Championship Men’s (25+) relay team in the one hour swim
He also placed first in New England in the 1500 meters and 1650 freestyle at least ten times. In addition, Frank has supported the Save-the-Bay Swim through organizing numerous non-profit clinics while participating in the swim himself.
Frank continues to be a tireless supporter of Masters and Fitness swimming.
