FRED BARTLETT

2005 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

 

          In the area of competitive swimming, Fred Bartlett is a world- class triathlon athlete, and a superior Masters swimmer. He has competed on the world level in triathlons since 1992. Fred Placed first in his age group in the swimming portion of the World Championship Triathlon held in Lucerne, Switzerland in 1998.  From -1997 to 2002 he finished no less than third place in his age group in the swimming competition at the Triathlon World Championships. In addition to- being a six-time winner of the local Barrington Triathlon, Fred has also competed in and won both the Block Island Triathlon and the Westboro Triathlon. Fred has completed the 1.7 mile open water swim from Newport to Jamestown sponsored by SAVE THE BAY thirteen times; he has always placed in the top five and finished second an incredible eight times.

           A tireless promoter of fitness events and activities he developed the Firm Man Triathlon and has coordinated the annual competition since 1996. He is co-chairperson of the USA Aquathlon and is a triathlon coach for the Leukemia Society Team in Training. Since 1995 Fred has coached the South County YMCA Masters Swim Team and coordinates and directs their annual Masters swim meet. He. also has established the Narragansett Ocean Swimming Enthusiasts for master swimmers and coordinates its activities. Fred also conducts training sessions and swim clinics for SAVE THE BAY.

         Fred’s contributions to aquatics are noteworthy because of the breadth of his contributions over time; he is perhaps One of Rhode Island’s most valuable resources in the areas of health, fitness and aquatics.

Fred is a long time resident of Narragansett, Rhode island.
