JEFFREY LENIHAN

2015 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

 

Jeff has been involved in various aspects of aquatics – from swimmer to lifeguard to the decorated coach of LaSalle Academy.  Beginning his swimming career at the Westerly YMCA, Jeff earned varsity letters as well as All Division honors during high school at St Bernard where he was chosen as the 1986 Most Valuable Swimmer.  For more than 30 years, Jeff has been involved with lifeguarding; serving as a lifeguard and surf captain, an American Red Cross lifeguard training instructor, the RI Lifeguard tournament director, not to mention winner of countless awards for swimming and rowing competitions during lifeguard tournaments.  Jeff has worked as an assistant coach for the Providence Boys & Girls Club swim team for the last 15 years training both novice swimmers as well as multiple RIMA All-Star swimmers.  Coach Lenihan is probably best known for leading the LaSalle Rams to 5 girls State Championships (2008 – 2012) including 4 undefeated dual meet seasons!  Since taking command of the LaSalle swim program in 2001, Coach has also claimed numerous Division Championship titles.  In 2011, Jeff received the prestigious NISCA David H. Robinson Excellence in Coaching Award – one of only five RI coaches to have earned this honor!!! That same year the LaSalle Rams were chosen as the recipients of the Paul Rossi Sportsmanship Award for outstanding team spirit and conduct.
