Marie Walsh

1999 Special Award of Recognition

The Rhode Island Aquatic Hall of Fame Board of Directors will bestow a Special Award of Recognition to Marie Walsh of Cumberland for her many years of service to swimming in Rhode Island.

Walsh’s involvement in swimming began at the Pawtucket YMCA 30 years ago. She became a certified official and member of the Rhode Island Swim Coaches and Officials Association. Marie was the association’s treasurer for five years and a member for 18 years.

In 1978, Walsh became Sher-Le-Mon’s representative to the Narragansett Swim League and eventually became Secretary Treasurer, a position she held for 18 years. Marie conducted the league’s All Pool Championship meet for many years and handled administrative tasks, including the keeping of records.

Walsh has also been involved as a coach and volunteer for over 28 years with the Pawtucket YMCA, the Cumberland Lincoln Boys Club and the Cumberland Area Swim Team.
