PETER ZEIGER

2004  INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Peter Zeiger began swimming at the Abbott RI Valley Swim Club, at the age of 8. By age 10 moved on to the Cumberland-Lincoln Boys Club.  From 1977 to 1980, Peter led the Cumberland High School swim team to victory at the Rhode Island Interscholastic Championships. Individually, Pete earned All-State honors three years in a row and capped off his Interscholastic career in 1980 winning the 100yard Freestyle and was a key member of the State Championship 400yard Freestyle relay team. The Pawtucket Times also named Pete “Swimmer of the Week” numerous times throughout his four-year career at Cumberland High School.

Following graduation, Peter went on to star at the University of Maine, Orono where he was a four year letter winner. Peter is most proud of his accomplishments at the University in dropping eight seconds in his 200yard Freestyle to a 1:42.00, setting personal record of 4:40 in the 500yard Freestyle and becoming the school record holder in the 400yard Freestyle Relay, which clocked an impressive 3:07.0.   Peter was selected as team captain in his senior year.
