RAYMOND P. LAMORE

1981 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

Ray became involved with competitive swimming when his daughter, Clara, first started swimming at the Olneyville Boy’s Club.  Ray was one of the most respected swimming officials in Rhode Island and New England.  He was also one of two AAU swimming commissioners in New England.  Ray was a charter member of the Rhode Island Interscholastic Swimming Officials Association that was organized twenty years ago, and he was active as an official right up until his death in 1978.  One of the school boy relay events in the Annual Relay Carnival is named in his honor, and he also received the Joseph Tracey Award for his contribution to swimming in Rhode Island.
