SCOTT HASSELL

2014 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME

 

Scott Hassell was an outstanding age group swimmer for the Cranston Swim Club. As a 10 and 12 year old, he was selected to the Rhode Coaches and Officials All Star Team. Competing for Cranston East High School Scott was the Captain of the undefeated team during his senior year. During his three years of high school swimming Scott set several team records and was selected for the Journal Bulletin All State Team for the 200 freestyle and the 400 freestyle relay. After college Scott coached the Kent County YMCA team for ten years and the South County YMCA team for five years. He has been a Rhode Island Interscholastic Swim Official since 1996 and has served more than twelve years as an Executive Board member serving as their President for the last five years. In 1996 Scott was the recipient of the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Officials Award. Scott has served as referee and starter for the University of Rhode Island since 1996.
