SHARON CLEARY
2001 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME
Sharon began swimming and diving in the Narragansett Swim League. Her career as a top age group diver first gained statewide recognition as a freshman at Cumberland High School where she established herself as one of Rhode Island’s best high school athletes.
Sharon’s efforts earned her High School All-American, and she was a two-time Rhode Island All State diver. A state champion, Brown Interscholastic, and a Max Read champion, she also dove for the Little Rhody Diving Team where she was a New England champion and United States Senior National qualifier in 1983, 1984, and 1985. Sharon attended Brown University where she became the school record-holder and team captain. An outstanding student athlete, she was named to the All Ivy Swimming and Diving team and was a NCAA Division qualifier. Sharon received the Smith Award, given to Brown’s top female student-athlete. She graduated from Brown with a BA in honors in 1991.
