1987 Special Award of Recognition

The Evening Times has been co-sponsor of the Pawtucket Boys Club learn-to-swim program for 60 years.  Thousands of youngsters, both male and female, have learned to swim during this span of time not only from Pawtucket but throughout the Blackstone Valley area and surrounding communities.

This program has continued without interruption for that time.  It probably is the longest in years of continuous service not only in New England but throughout the country.

The TIMES has also contributed over the years to the sport of competitive swimming, with excellent coverage of the Boys Club, Y.M.C.A. and Interscholastic swim teams in the Pawtucket area.
