TONY ANDRADE
2000 INDUCTION TO THE RHODE ISLAND AQUATIC HALL OF FAME
Tony began his swimming and diving career at the Fox Point Boys Club under Bud Latham. He represented Hope High School from 1947 until his graduation in 1949. In 1948, Andrade was the New England Junior Champion in the 50 meter freestyle, but was more widely recognized for his talents as a diver. He was a member of the 1949 All-State team for diving and won numerous state and New England diving titles.
Andrade continued his involvement in aquatics through the years at the Providence Boys Clubs and Cranston YMCA. He became one of the most respected Red Cross water safety instructors in the area and also performed as a clown diver in exhibition water shows. As a Water Safety instructor he assisted in many of the Red Cross national camps as a Water Safety Instructor Trainer.
Tony lives in East Providence.
